How likely is that robots will take over jobs? Well it depends on what the job is. Certain kinds of repetitive work is likely to be taken over , think traffic lights; they are all mostly computer controlled in modern cities.
From traffic lights computer controlled trains light rail comes next. Autonomous buses on set routes might be the next step, but still perhaps with a human system assistant. Autonomous cars would be of varying kinds. From radar assisted cruise control to lane awareness controls eventually lead to automatic lane changing, pedestrian awareness etc.
Manufacturing of course becomes highly automated too. But what about the design of new things? could machines or computer algorithms take over? Quite possibly through the use of genetic style algorithms where a solution is selected for from millions of possible designs. Run the designs though sophisticated simulations and then even prototype it in the real world.
