Star Trek Beyond review

My initial impression is that this was somewhat visually overwhelming. I think the contrast from going from quiet star ship boredom to going to a clearly hazardous mission was a bit too quick. The sheer scale made this quite similar to the first movie of this rebooted series/timeline.

The York Town star base was truly impressive but did seem to be very much inspired by Inception. In some ways I would like to see a series of Star Trek movie in the style of a Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings. More sweeping wide scenes would be nice,  a bit more of a contemplative feel would not go astray either.

On the fun side though the film did have the classic quirkiness to it amongst the characters and even included a subtle, perhaps not so subtle reference to the bike chase scene from the Great Escape.
