Neanderthal hashtag art

It seems like one of the first pieces of ‘art’ work by Neanderthals has been uncovered in Gibraltar. The apparent #hashtag was found beneath undisturbed sediments and also showed up Neanderthal tools.

The BBC article notes the usual commentary that neanderthals were brutish etc , even though it has been known for perhaps a decade or more from other finds that neanderthals were fairly sophisticated.

There is some argument about whether these markings were influenced by contact with the more modern homosapians at the time.

So it does seem to suggest there may have been some sort of interaction.
