Nightflyers

This is a pretty quick review because I think I’m only watching the first episode. It started well with a nice sense of space physics, using a rotating spacecraft (which was the best thing about the show) instead of gravity plates, but I’m fairly sure in a pull-back wide shot the person was standing in the wrong orientation.

But as this started to go further it really lack a sense of purpose and mission, yes it did say they want to make first contact but it just seems too vague. Overall it felt a a bit derivative not dissimilar to a classic 90s movie Event Horizon. So this is really just a psychological horror with telepaths in space and a potential alien. It just all seems more magical than hard sci-fi. Especially since there is no initial explanations for how the telepathy works.  In comparison The Expanse had a better handle on making more believable sci-fi.
